Mag. Dr. Alexander Weiss was born 1986 near Innsbruck. After his studies of chemistry at the University of Innsbruck, he obtained his magister and doctor degrees in Theoretical Chemistry, working on numerical models and statistics in terms of computer aided simulations and quantum mechanics. Shifting his interest on laboratory work he joined the group of Pidder Jansen-Dürr at IBA in 2015. In 2019 he was awarded a tenure track position (QV) and expanded into founding his own group at the IBA in 2020, now focused on the enzymatic characterization of FAHD proteins. His main expertise is with enzymology, protein purification and crystallization, and computer aided simulation. He is the author and lead developer of a quantum chemical software (QuMuLuS++) and lead developer of a molecular dynamics software (QMCF2) hosted on SourceForge, however, which has become a hobby rather than a profession.
